Cermaq salmon farm is situated deep in the remote Patagonia region of Chile arms bound in the 10th, 11th and 12th regions amongst the fjords of Patagonia. This expansive, isolated location provides the fish with ample space to swim, preventing overcrowding. As a leader in sustainable aquaculture, Cermaq is committed to eco-friendly practices. They employ innovative, ocean-friendly feed that contains no wild-caught feeder fish, significantly reducing the impact on marine ecosystems.

 

Cermaq uses a method called "harmony farming" which aims to balance fish health with environmental stewardship. This approach includes reducing fish density in pens to minimize stress and disease, optimizing feeding practices to reduce waste, and ensuring pristine water quality

 

Their dedication to sustainability ensures that their farming methods protect the environment while producing high-quality salmon.

 

Cermaq holds several important certifications that highlight their commitment to sustainability:

 

1. Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) Certification: This certification is awarded to farms that meet strict environmental and social standards. Verlasso aims to have all their operations 100% ASC certified.

 

2. Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) Certification: This certification ensures that Verlasso adheres to high standards for environmental and social responsibility, animal welfare, food safety, and traceability.

 

3. Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch "Good Alternative" Rating: Verlasso was the first farmed salmon to receive this rating, which indicates that their farming practices have minimal environmental impact.

AquaChile

AquaChile (Verlasso Brand) is based  in South Chile with farms bound in the 10th, 11th and 12th regions amongst the fjords of Patagonia, known for clear and cold waters  ideal for farm raised Chilian Salmon.

 

AquaChile sources its salmon from their own hatcheries located in Chile. They use environmentally friendly methods aiming for minimal environmental impact and using practices like reduced fish feed and hormone-free growth.  To reduce impacts of the process to sea sites, after each harvest, the fjords are allowed to stand fallow for 3-6months, during which nets are removed, allowing water to restore and promote the health of the surrounding areas. AquaChile also embraces low pen densities, allowing the fish ample space to swim and grow.

 

AquaChile holds several important certifications that highlight their commitment to sustainability: AquaChile utilizes sustainable and environmentally conscious approach that includes double net systems to prevent escapes, a proprietary feed  and avoiding preventative antibiotics and hormones.

 

1. Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) Certification: This certification is awarded to farms that meet strict environmental and social standards.

 

2. World Wildlife Fund (WWF): WWF supports farms in improving their performance and achieving the ASC standards.

 

3. Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch “Yellow" Rating:  Seafood with this rating is considered a better choice than “Red” Rating but, not as sustainable as those with “Green” Ratings..

 

4. Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) Certification: This certification ensures that AquaChile adheres to high standards for environmental and social responsibility, animal welfare, food safety, and traceability.

Hong Ngoc

Hong Ngoc fishes for wild caught tuna primarily from the rich fishing grounds off the coast of Vietnam particularly in the South China Sea and Wester Pacific Ocean. These areas are known for their abundant marine life and are ideal for catching high-quality tuna.

 

Hong Ngoc partners with local fisherman that use a method called “Selective Fishing Technique," which aims minimize bycatch and reduce impact on non-target species. Hong Ngoc fishes in regulated fishing zones that are managed and regulated to prevent overfishing and to maintain fish populations.

 

Each catch is carefully documented to ensure full traceability from the ocean to the consumer, supporting transparency and sustainability.

Minh Phu

Minh Phu Seafood is one of the worlds leading shrimp exporters, known for its commitment to sustainability and high-quality products. Minh Phu operates mangrove shrimp farms in Ca Mau region. This method of growing integrates shrimp farming with mangrove forest conservation, providing a natural habitat for the shrimp and supporting the ecosystem health. They also have super-intensive vannamei shrimp farms in Loc An, where they use advanced farming techniques to maximize yield while maintaining sustainability.

 

Minh Phu also employs a rice-shrimp farming model, where rice cultivation and shrimp raising occur on the same plot of land. This innovative approach helps optimize land use and supports sustainable farming practices.

 

These diverse farming methods and locations help Minh Phu maintain high standards of sustainability and quality in their shrimp farming practices.

HB Corporation sources its nori from pristine coastal areas of South Korea, ensuring the seaweed is harvested from clean, nutrient-rich waters. This helps maintain the high quality and flavor of their products.

 

This supplier implements rigorous quality control measures throughout the production process. This includes careful selection of raw materials, thorough cleaning and precise drying techniques to preserve the nutritional value and taste of the nori.

 

HB Corporation is committed to sustainable harvesting practices. They ensure that their seaweed farming methods do not harm marine environment and supports the regeneration of seaweed beds.

Aquamar sources its mildly flavored white fish that is wild caught in an environmentally responsible and sustainable way. Mindfully embracing Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) is a core value of Aquamar in their business practices, approach to sustainability, and embrace of the highest ethical standards. Developed by our founder, a Japanese immigrant who was among the first to bring surimi to North America, utilizing proprietary manufacturing process to allow differentiated quality an innovative seafood products.

 

As an active member of the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), the premier organization devoted to protecting the world’s oceans and sea life, Aquamar adheres to strict sustainability standards. When it comes to our sources and suppliers, we are committed to only doing business with good stewards of the ocean’s bounty.

 

1. Certified Sustainable Alaska RFM: Responsible Fisheries Management (RFM) is a third-party certification program for wild-capture fisheries that stemmed from a partnership between ASMI and the Alaska seafood industry that aligned with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries, the most comprehensive set of international standards and best practices for wild fisheries.

 

2. Marine Stewardship Council MASC) Certification: This certification is awarded to wild catch seafood suppliers that meet strict environmental and social standards.

 

3. HACCP Certification: This certification ensures that Aquamar adheres to high standards for  food safety and quality.

An Hai Fishery Co. is based in Vietnam, is known for rich fishing grounds in the Pacific Ocean.

 

This company is committed to reducing their carbon footprint and minimizing waste through more efficient processing methods and sustainable fishing practices. An Hai Fishery Co. sources its Yellow Fin and Bigeye Tuna from the Pacific Ocean utilizing Longline fishing (this method involves using a long line with baited hooks, which minimizes bycatch and is more selective, targeting specific species like tuna. They also use purse seining using a large net to encircle schools of fish that also reduces bycatch). This company also uses pole-and-line fishing which is a traditional method that is highly selective and has minimal impact on the marine environment. These methods support this supplier's commitment to sustainable fishing practices and environmental stewardship.

 

An Hai Fishery Co. is enhancing their traceability stems to ensure that all products can be tracked from catch to consumer, promoting transparency and accountability.
